Influencing the Youth in the Behavioral Change Campaign

LHM-Uganda had an amazing experience with hundreds of students in Hoima district while conducting behaviour change sessions in several schools around Hoima town.  Daystar Christian Secondary School, Kitara Secondary school and St. Peter’s High School were among the few schools we visited and reached out.

In our experience while interacting with these young people, many youths are lured into sexual immorality as result of peer pressure and many end up taking risky decision that are even life threatening such as abortion.

With the help of our counselling sessions the youth in Hoima were not left the same. It was gratifying to see young people commit to say no to negative peer pressure as they determine to stand their ground for a brighter future. The other counselling sessions that were held included ‘Purposeful living’ and ‘Teen dating’ which we hope offered them guidance in living a future focused life.

ETS Seminar- a Wakeup Call!

Another opportunity yet came through for LHM Uganda to reach out to the people of Kamuli and Iganga district in Eastern Uganda. In its bid to equip laymen for evangelism and follow-up, LHM-Uganda conducted two ETS seminars where participants from several churches including the Anglican Church of Uganda, Catholic Church and our very own Lutheran were trained. The two seminars were held at Hearts and Hope for Uganda Primary School- in Kamuli Town and at Naigobya Lutheran church in Iganga.

These gave us forum to train the participants in evangelism and follow-up, and to also inspire laymen in having a passion to serve the Lord with the whole of their hearts. Facilitators enlightened participants about the need to preach the gospel considering the fact that the day of the Lord is fast approaching and all who have not yet believed in Him are doomed to destruction. This was done with the help of LHM’s ETS training modules.

Many of the participants were challenged and inspired with the message of the magnitude of the love of God for sinful mankind whom He has saved by His grace; and were encouraged to share that love with those who are lost, bearing in mind God loves them the same way. Some of the participants especially from the Catholic Church were enlightened about the only way to eternity which is Jesus Christ alone, and were encouraged to receive Him as their Lord and savior.

The Lutheran churches needed a new touch to be revived for the work of God. Congregants had lost the zeal to serve the Lord.  And according to the pastors of these congregations, this was manifested in late coming for Sunday Services, and laxity in participating in church activities among others. The ETS seminars were a wake-up call for all members to embrace practical ways of Christian living.

Approximately 47 participants most of whom were women were commissioned as volunteers.
