The Lord your God Is with You!

Due to the daily challenges and obstacles we face in our day to day lives, we often forget God’s promises to His children. “Have I not commanded you, be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go”- Joshua 1:9. LHM-Uganda together with the local church volunteers recently reached out to the people of Gwase in Kamuli district with personal evangelism through home to home visits. It happened to be conducted in a time labeled with financial constraints, lack and emptiness as people had many unanswered questions about life.

In home to home evangelism we visited and shared with both believers and non-believers including Lutheran church congregants some of whom had abandoned attending church. As we interacted with them about their reasons for abandoning church, certain things came out evident like financial lack which they thought would be resolved by a few extra hours in the field, sickness and disease among others. Unfortunately little did they know that this emptiness could only be filled by the love of Christ and their trust in Him to see them through one day at a time.

Together with the local volunteers we took time to encourage, share in the Word of God and pray with the audience as we reminded them of the many promises God has made to His people as recorded in His Holy Word; and these promises they needed to continually mediate upon and remain confident as God will continue to remain true to His word. We also seized the moment to invite them to church.  “Since that time we had that home to home visit, various people have continued to call me wanting to join the church, while other have asked to be baptized. Some members who had abandoned the church have returned and I am impressed by the impact this LHM-Uganda had in my community.” commented Rev. Elifaz Buluba of Kyabazaala Gwase Lutheran Church.

The Lord of The Harvest!

The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray that the Lord of the harvest will send out laborers into His harvest field. Mathew 9:37-38.

We have been reliving this verse the past few days as we went out witnessing to a diverse audience of non-believers resident in Kampala’s large slums of Kamwokya, Ggaba, and Kisugu among others. These comprised street vendors, hawkers, street kids, drunkards and prostitutes entrenched in drug abuse, prostitution, theft etc. Amazingly as we shared with these people it was evident many of them were willing to change and give-up their old ways to embrace the new life in Christ Jesus with the help of prayer. Prayer is a powerful weapon!

This embraced us with an opportunity to witness to them about the unchanging Love of Christ; who loves us anyway and does not judge us. What better way to tell of God’s unending Love than through His great Love story where God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to come live in this filthy world and later die to take away our sin. This would only be better understood through the Jesus’ film that attracted over 1200 people generating over 800 responses who came forward to tell us the program had impacted their lives and were willing to provide us with their names and contact for follow-up. Indeed the Lord of the harvest is ready to work if only we determine to move. Remember if you do not move someone else will!
